Food Growing Workshops on Quadra Island

Who?Ryan Nassichuk is a passionate gardener and certified horticulturist, three decades into a lifelong exploration of small-scale vegetable, fruit, and mushroom cultivation. Ryan is passionate about helping people grow better gardens, and is finally ready to offer this experimental, joyous, season-long workshop series in his own garden, orchard, and mushroom patch, beginning in April of 2024

What?A practical, hands-on garden workshop series, held during the 2024 growing season. An opportunity to learn-about, discuss, and experience a wide variety of crops and human-scale food growing techniques. An opportunity for gardeners of all levels to build and improve skills among likeminded fellow gardeners, in an established, diverse, productive garden

Why?Ryan is passionate about vibrant, thriving gardens and orchards, and is delighted to have the opportunity to share some of the joy his own gardening journey has brought him with a small group of fellow gardeners. Building and sharing garden skills together in a productive garden will be a magical and amusing experience

Where?Workshops will be held in and around the garden and orchard that Ryan shares with a friend, near Quadra Loop, on Quadra Island. While the group will mostly learn outdoors, indoor skills and slideshows will be held in the barn and in Ryan's comfortable, chic living room (which is also in the barn)

When?Workshops will be held every Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to noon, with an optional one hour extended discussion/Q and A session at noon. The first workshop will be held on April 6th, 2024, and the last on September 28th, 2024. The season will be divided into six month-long sessions, and participants will register for each month's session on the first Saturday of the month.
